The Euro Rises and Falls Against the Dollar
In overnight trading the Euro made gains against the U.S. Dollar. Starting from an overnight low of 1.2643, the Euro rallied and by 3:00 am Eastern Standard Time was at an early morning zenith of 1.2683. This recovery was not to last, and the European currency began to slip. By 6:00 am, only three hours later than its overnight high, the Euro had stumbled back to nearly its starting point. It was now at 1.2659 against the dollar.
At 5:00 am the Euro-zone industrial production data was released. This sparked resurgence in the currency and by 8:47 am it had gained on the dollar and now traded against it at 1.2666.
The Canadian Dollar exhibited some of the volatility of its European cousin and was trading down against the dollar. There was no economic news of significance to cause this mild downward turn.
